I have etc. to refer to your
Confidential (2) despatch of the 22nd
of May, 1939, on the subject of the
salvaging of the Japanese S.S. "Jin
Kai Maru", and to confirm my telegram
No.135 of the 13th of July which read
as follows:
"With reference to your despatch Confidential (2) of May 22nd. Salvage operations on S.S. "Jin Kai Maru". I agree to refusal of application of Japanese Company. In order to avoid any dispute on the point of most- favoured-nation treatment, I
suggest that prohibition on salvaging the vessel in question
should extend to all foreign Companies and that only a British
Company should be allowed to undertake the work. Despatch follows by mail."
